What is Bowen...

Bowen is a most effective, non invasive, drug free remedial therapy and form of body work. It consists of a series of gentle rolling movements at precise points on the body, usually over conective tissue, muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is a fascial release therapy which means it is releasing tension held within the bodies complex network of fascia (connective tissue).
There is no force or manipulation involved and often the client may go into a state of deep relaxation during the treatment.
Bowen works by stimulating the body's own self healing mechanism to regulate itself, releasing stress at a very deep level and promotes re-alignment of the body. It aims to restore muscle integrity and bring balance and correct function to the whole body. Bowen works on the bodies autonomic nervous system that controls over 80% of bodily functions. Therefore, often clients may notice improvement with other unrelated conditions. Hormonal imbalances, sleep disorders, IBS, high blood pressure, depression can all respond to the Bowen Technique. The gentle nature of Bowen helps to instill an emotional calm and give a profound sense of wellbeing. One of Bowens many benefits!
Each set of Bowen moves is followed by a rest period of approximately 2 minutes to allow your body to respond with maximum effect.
There is no chiropractic adjustment, prolonged pressure or deep tissue manipulation and it is not a form of massage.

Origins of Bowen

Bowen therapy originated in Australia and was developed by the late Dr Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916-1982). Over a period of years he developed his modality and treated 1000's during his life time. Although many said he was highly intuitive, he based his method on science and his understanding of the human body. After his passing, a select few who had learned with him, took it out to share to the world this amazing healing technique. It is relatively new to the UK, arriving in the 1990's. But due to the effectiveness of the technique, it is becoming increasingly popular, with more and more people turning to Bowen to seek lasting relief from pain, often after everything else tried has failed.
Bowen has earned the reputation of being one of the most straightforward and effective treatments available.
Treating the body as a whole

Bowen is a holistic treatment, where we look at the whole body and not just focus on the presenting condition or specific area of discomfort, in order to get to the root cause of the problem. The body is amazing and complex and can often develop compensation patterns and referred pain.
Often a problem in one area may be due to an imbalance or tensional pull in another area. Bowen aims to address this. For example, a lower back pain could be due to a number of reasons; pelvic imbalance, tight hamstring, shoulder problem, TMJ imbalance etc..
During each session the client will be assessed and the necessary adjustments will be made dependent on what the body indicates.
Each session will be tailored to individual client needs based upon assessment findings and no two treatments will be the same.
